Raptor requires customers buy their firewall to use their VPNs. This is not appropriate when a company's partners such as suppliers or distribution channels are already equipped with firewalls. AltaVista offers this independence with a solution that has been qualified with all leading vendors.
In addition, AltaVista has a best-in-class security with dynamic rekeying. Raptor solution, based on a publicly available freeware code: SWIPE, may have some security holes when passing UDP packets.
Raptor claims "unlimited" number of tunnels. In a different manner, AltaVista wants to only communicate the maximum number of concurrent tunnels that it has fully tested and qualified. AltaVista's other competitive advantages are: NT support and a best price/performance ratio.
