OEM Software and Services

AltaVista Internet Software, Inc. now offers software, services, and assistance for partners, ISV's, VAR's and other developers that want to add search, security, directory services, and collaboration to their applications, network products, and Internet/intranet solutions. With the explosion of the Internet as the communication vehicle and data becoming more easily publishable to a large audience, the ability to find information and provide secure transaction environments are key issues for today's users and developers.

To assist in these endeavors AltaVista is offering software, support, and engineering services to the developer community. We are also offering bundling opportunities where our commercial products are complimentary.

AltaVista Search
AltaVista has the most popular search service on the Internet with over 30 million visits a day. We have extended that capability to intranets by offering commercial products from the desktop through the enterprise that will find information wherever it resides and in whatever format it is in, at lightening speed. For the development community, AltaVista is offering a software development kit that allows programmers to add these capabilities to any application. The full text indexing and comprehensive query capabilities provide for the most pertinent data to be found including that residing in database systems.

In addition to the kit, AltaVista is offering support and update services as well as engineering services to assist you in developing, designing, and implementing your solution. The licensing/pricing structure for the finished application and services is available through the US OEM Manager for AltaVista. Contact information is listed below.

AltaVista Security
AltaVista is quickly building a name for itself in the security industry with firewall and Virtual Private Networking (tunnel) software. The firewall technology is quite seasoned, having its roots in the DECSEAL product developed in the mid-eighties. With secure remote management and the best graphic alarming and management interface in the industry, the AltaVista Firewall offerings are rapidly gaining marketshare. AltaVista's VPN solution is the first in the marketplace based on IETF standards that is firewall, application, and IP address independent.

AltaVista is committed to the IPSEC standards. Many of the competing solutions are based on proprietary protocols and are dependent on a particular firewall. The major OEM opportunity here is for developers in the remote access market and remote management market to add security to their offering. The security provides two way authentication, encryption, and application independence. Applications will operate unchanged over the "tunnel" that is created.

There is also the opportunity to bundle off-the-shelf versions of firewall and tunnel with complimentary applications that require security. For instance, any TCP/IP or Web based application that uses the Internet as the communication link can be provided with instant security by using these products. We have the tools in the form of source code and libraries to integrate these products into your offering. As above we also provide support, update, design, implementation, and engineering services. The licensing/pricing structure for the finished application and services is available through the US OEM Manager for AltaVista. Contact information is listed below.

AltaVista Collaboration
AltaVista develops and sells the AltaVista Forum product, which is web-based collaboration software that offers bulletin board style conferencing, document sharing, scheduling, news filtering, built-in AltaVista Searching, live conferencing, and simple team management. The product works in conjunction with most web servers. Client access is through almost any web browser. The product ships with an extensive software development kit for integration and adding/enhancing functionality. The major OEM opportunity is for rapidly adding collaboration into Web base applications.

There are many software developers creating on-line special interest group software and services. AltaVista Forum is a perfect compliment for adding bi-directional communication. One ISV created a complete order entry, tracking, and support system based on the AltaVista Forum. All in a third of the time used for normal application development. AltaVista provides support, update, design, implementation, and engineering services. The licensing/pricing structure for the finished application and services is available through the US OEM Manager for AltaVista. Contact information is listed below.

AltaVista Directories
AltaVista has one of the most respected X.500 offerings in the industry. This product was one of the first implementing the CCIIT specification and has been on the market since 1989. We are now pleased to offer an out-of-the-box NT version in addition to the award winning UNIX version. Both versions support LDAP and X.500 protocols. Directory services offer a hierarchical database of user information. It is often used in conjunction with mail systems, human resource applications, and universal identification schemes to find and/or identify people, functions, place, things, etc. quickly.

As an example, if I were in e-mail, I may want to send out a message to everyone in my company that is at the Director level. With directories this is a simple task. With the World Wide Web, the need to login to several different web sites and remember different user names and passwords is a nightmare. Many software companies are developing universal identifier software or passports. With this passport, you can login to any site that supports it without having to remember anything. This functionality is based upon directory services.

The OEM opportunity is to add people & function finding information into vertical applications. There is no SDK since LDAP and X.500 protocols are the specified API. AltaVista provides support, update, design, implementation, and engineering services. The licensing/pricing structure for the finished application and services is available through the US OEM Manager for AltaVista. Contact information is listed below.
