LITTLETON, Mass.-October 8, 1997 -- Digital Equipment today announced a new performance-based pricing model for AltaVista Search Intranet eXtension 97 - the company's powerful Web search and retrieval solution for documents stored on intranets, extranets and the World Wide Web. The new pricing plan supports current and future business scalability needs, allowing customers to upgrade as the size of their information retrieval environment needs grow - even to millions of documents.
In addition to the new pricing structure, Digital today announced
the availability of AltaVista Search Intranet eXtension 97 for
Digital UNIX and Sun Solaris. The popular AltaVista Search Developer's
Kit 97 for Windows NT will ship at the end of October. AltaVista Search Intranet eXtension 97 (NT, Digital UNIX and Sun Solaris)Pricing for AltaVista Search Intranet eXtension 97 is based on the number of Web pages indexed plus the number of PC application files indexed. AltaVista Search Intranet eXtension 97 can index more than 200 file formats, including Microsoft Office 97, Adobe PDF, PostScript, HTML and text. Seven pricing tiers are offered, ranging from $995 for 1,000 Web pages/PC application files indexed to $99,995 to index an unlimited amount of information. Extremely scalable, AltaVista Search Intranet eXtension 97 automatically crawls and indexes corporate intranets, extranets and selected World Wide Web sites, including password protected sites and frames. HTML, text files and more than 200 other types of file formats are indexed. The product also comes with a standard, easy-to-use, multi-national interface which supports 23 languages. New features include user-customizable query and results pages, support for Digital UNIX and Sun Solaris, an improved Adobe PDF-to-HTML converter. AltaVista Search Intranet eXtension 97 runs on Windows NT (Intel and Alpha), Digital UNIX v4.0 or later (Alpha) and Sun Solaris v2.4 or later (SPARC). AltaVista Search Developer's Kit 97 (Windows NT) The AltaVista Search Developer's Kit 97 is a tool kit for developers and systems integrators to create AltaVista Search applications that can find information stored within structured databases and file repositories. The developer's kit costs $995; licensing and implementation is priced separately based on the amount of information being indexed. Seven pricing tiers are offered, ranging from $995 for 1 GB of source information to $99,995 for an unlimited amount of source information. The AltaVista Search Developer's Kit 97 includes an indexing engine, APIs, and full documentation and coding examples. Previously available only for Digital UNIX, it is now available for Windows NT (Intel and Alpha.)
